For one weekend in September and one in April, during the Liberty Antiques Festival, it is as if Liberty is part of South Greensboro. Highway 421 South is filled with people heading from Greensboro to Liberty for all the antiques, not only at the main festival, but throughout the entire community. The above photo features a side view of Grace Evangelical Lutheran Church of Liberty. The congregation, steeped in the teachings of Martin Luther, formed in 1911. The above church building was constructed in 1915. It has lovely stained glass windows and, like many churches, evidence that the original building has had parts added.
In the above photo, you see Mr. GDP checking out the plantings at the church property. It is obvious that someone involved in the church landscaping knew a lot about plants. The bush in the photo looks like a very mature Buddleja, or butterfly bush. There are so many little communities around Greensboro, and they are fun to visit. Exploring church grounds and reading their cornerstones are great ways to learn about a community. Happy Sunday.
It is a beauty!
