The Knights of Columbus Council in Greensboro was formed in 1904, making it 114 years old. Greensboro's Knights Council is Council 939 and the building, constructed in 1983, is located on Horse Pen Creek Road. The building is a great place for gatherings and a source of much fellowship for many of Greensboro's catholics. While most of Greensboro's Catholic churches are located closer to town, the council hall is conveniently located very near St. Paul's Church.
It is hard to believe that the organization was founded in Connecticut in 1882 to help Irish-Catholic men who were experiencing prejudice and hard times in general. At one time, Irish Catholic immigrants were discriminated against. The Catholic population in Greensboro really started to grow in the 1950's. Vic Nussbaum was the city's first Catholic mayor. Greensboro's KOC council is the largest in North Carolina and second oldest, being one year younger than the Charlotte council. Today, in Washington, D.C. they will be holding a Veteran's Day event. We're not sure if they are having any local services.
Peaceful is what comes to mind with this.
