This photo of the Greensboro Farmers Market on Yanceyville looks like it could have been taken in 1874 when the market first opened. Shoppers are crossing the footbridge as the market (on the left) was closing. The farmers market is a place, not only to purchase great produce, but also to meet and interact with other people interested in supporting local businesses and eating nutritious food.
With the monochrome finish of the photo, the woman in the beautiful, long, white coat looks like she could be straight out of a Russian novel. Let's pretend she is the smart, cheerful, funloving Natalya Rostova in Tolstoy's novel, "War and Peace." Natalya may well be the only Russian heroine who is still smiling after a thousand pages!*
Cone Mills was founded in 1895, about 21 years after the above farmers market. Can't you just imagine a wealthy woman out ƒor a stroll on an overcast morning in November, in that very part of town? While the new structures in Greensboro are lovely, it is always fun to seek out views that haven't changed much over the last century.
See you tomorrow, or as they say in Russian, "До завтра."

Black and white is quite fitting for this.
