Cone Health is second only to Guilford County Schools as one of the the county's top employers. The above photo features the newly-constructed North Tower of Cone Hospital between Elm and Church Streets. The photo also features the covered glass walkway to the second floor, the rock bed that helps with drainage, and a patio. In 2015, this North Tower earned LEED Silver Certification for its steps taken to minimize environmental impact. From plants growing on roof top terraces to the energy-saving, air-exchange system to the 53 rooftop solar panels and more, sustainability is evident in so many of the design features.*
For some, walking along the above path is full of hope and joy; a new baby, a recovery, a second chance. For others, it is a walk full of worry and not always the news one wants to hear. Regardless, seeing all of that effort related to environmental impact and sustainability sends a clear message that Cone Health cares not only about what happens in a hospital room, but what happens in the environment.
