Saturday is a great day to get out and explore Greensboro. If you head out West Market street, you will find this tan-brick, triangular, industrial structure. The above building, at 8416 West Market Street, originally housed the Fabristeel Corporation. The building is near the PART Transportation Hub and between Burgess and Brush Roads. Fabristeel is a company that makes steel anchors, metal and steel fabrications, concrete, field embed, and cast-in panel anchors. (This last sentences is a lot more comprehensible if you are in the construction business). Fabristeel filed for corporation status in 1952, with Barry P Westmoreland listed as company president. Hopefully, this 66-year-old Greensboro area business is still going strong.
The current address for Fabristeel is listed as 2421 Oak Ridge Road, which means the above building just may be available to get transformed into something new. If you could see this sturdy, 1950s, mid-century building renovated into something, what ideas do you have? Even though it is right at the edge of the road, 8416 West Market Street has too much character to be torn down!
It would be a perfect space for a group of working studio artists! Greensboro does not have enough affordable studio space for artists.
