August 15th was Independence Day in India and the Indian community in Greensboro celebrated it this past Saturday with a tremendous social event on Landmark Drive. The event, Experience India, was a day of music, art, dance, good food, shopping, and community building. These two young ladies were a fine example of the beautiful costumes dancers wore. We met up with them as they were walking in with their family. They were more than accommodating, explaining about the festival, their dancing, and making sure that we found our way in and felt welcome.
The event was sponsored by the India Association of the Triad, a non-sectarian, non-profit organization, established in 2002. Their main goal is to create awareness and help members maintain connections to Indian cultures and to give people a chance to share their heritage and talent. The above two ladies did so with beauty and grace.
Excellent portrait!
There was a similar event held here at the time at our city hall.
