We know we just featured a vehicle yesterday, but for those who like vintage vehicles, it is fun to look for old cars around Greensboro. We have some that are still road ready. Recently, parked behind Perry's Downtown Exxon, and near the Bellemeade Parking Deck, was this late 1960's Pontiac GTO. Fifty years is a mighty impressive life for a car. If you want to see some vehicles like this muscle car, mark your calendar for the weekend of September 21st, when the Petty Museum and Greensboro Classic Car will host a Celebration of Speed. (more about the event, here).
In 2003, Jim Schlosser wrote an article for the News & Record about gas stations downtown.* Since the 1980's Perry's has been the only station downtown. In 1953, there were 47 gas stations in downtown Greensboro. If Schlosser's article is on point, Perry should be about fifty years old and his station should be paid for. Perry says he makes the bulk of his money from repairs, and so, it is not uncommon to seeing vintage vehicles like the golden GTO behind this Exxon. How wonderful to have places like Perry's Exxon!
