Today's photo shows a commercial jet on approach to the Piedmont Triad International (PTI) airport. From this point the airplane was approximately 3 miles from touchdown and roughly 1000 feet above the photographer.
The Greensboro, Winston-Salem, High Point airport began as pasture land converted to a landing field. The airport had its first passenger in 1927. The first official name was Lindley Field. Recently the Piedmont Triad Airport Authority considered changing the airport name, but due to feedback from the public, decided to put the change on hold in January 2018. More history is available on the Airport Authority website here.
Delta, United and American serve PTI. It is also the home to Hondajet, Haeco and a Cessna Citation Service Center. FedEx recently announced that expanded hub operations will begin in a few weeks bringing 400 additional jobs to the airport.
There's a lot of activity at the airport! We wish you a pleasant journey on your next flight!
Great light in that sky.
I rarely see the big planes here, unless they're cruising at altitude. Our main airport lies south of the city, and the runways are all set on an east-west axis.
