The above house is located at the corner of Cypress and Yanceyville Streets. It is located in Dunleath, formerly know as Aycock Historic District. It is a good example of the restoration that takes place in these historic districts. The house has great bones and a fabulous porch. Some of the wood needed to be replaced, the windows need work, and once a couple of coats of paint get added, this house will be restored to its former glory, and then some.
The families that live in Dunleath have played quite a leadership role in historic preservation in Greensboro. If you get a chance this summer, drive through the neighborhood. There are some real gems that have been restored. Also, there are some houses that could use some TLC and you would have quite a community of neighbors with advice, skills, and muscle-power to help you with your own historic preservation efforts.
That's worth the effort.
