The first annual Piedmont One Mic Acoustic Convention (#POMAC) was held this past weekend about 45 minutes southeast of Greensboro in Franklinville, NC. Last year, Mark Dillon (playing guitar above) presented the idea to the Franklinville Town Council and they were eager and agreeable from the start. Once permission was granted and funding was arranged, Mark and members of the Piedmont Old Time Society began planning the festival. Thankfully, committee members had a lot of experience attending festivals and took great care to make POMAC enjoyable for musicians and spectators alike. Thanks to festival costs being underwritten by Franklinville for this first year, the festival was free and prize money was awarded to individuals and bands in a wide variety of musical categories.
Franklinville, formerly a thriving cotton mill community, is now a sleepy little town, located along the Deep River in eastern Randolph County. The venue was just perfect, with the Deep River as a backdrop and the viewing area on a natural slope with all views leading to the stage. Plans are already in the works for POMAC 2019. Well, I declare, it sure does look like fun, don't it? Just kidding. I've played a little acoustic guitar in my time and would have loved this event. I hope there were more spectators than the two sitting on the grass, though.

Spring seems to have firmly established itself there.
