"This Day Belongs to Us"

"This Day Belongs To Us" was yesterday's headline in the  "News and Record", the daily newspaper in Greensboro. This local article, as well as the national one, "Enough Is Enough", made it clear the the Nation's high school students are leading this movement. When young people take action, usually change is made. The Greensboro Sit-Ins, a local movement during the Civil Rights Era of the 1960's, as well as the Vietnam War Protests, remind us of the power, tenacity, and results when the young take action. Saturday's march in Greensboro had between 3,000 and 4,000 participants and it is estimated that half were pre-collegiate students.

The above photo features some of the student-leaders in the Greensboro March for Life. As they stood on the stairs of Government Plaza, speaking to the public, they too, had that poised, confident demeanor of the students from Lakeland Florida. It is not entirely clear the "next steps" for this movement. Students are entering the last two and a half months of the school year. To be sure, their voices will continue to be heard and, before you know it, they will be voting and running for office. Behind these students are parents and teachers who believe in them. Here's to inspiring all students to arm themselves with knowledge and feeling empowered to engage in what they think is right for Greensboro, the United States, and beyond.
