1007 North Elm Street is a 9 bedroom, nearly 7,000 square foot house built in 1919. This is the John Marion Galloway House. Galloway played a leadership role in the tobacco industry in North Carolina. The house, in the English Tudor Period Revival style, was designed by local architect Harry Barton. The rock building material is Mt. Airy Granite. The house has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1983. *
According to online real estate records, the house was last sold in 1988. The person who lives there keeps the curb appeal interesting as there is always an original work of art on the front lawn. The current installation is a one-story-tall Christmas tree that it is built out of blue plastic strips- perhaps dry cleaning bags. The artificial tree changes character depending on whether the day is sunny or gray. Greensboro has a lot of original holiday decorations, including the tree featured above.
