Stokesdale is a town in northwest Guilford County, approximately 20 miles north of Greensboro. The population was listed as just over 5,000 in the 2010 census, which was almost doubled from the 2000 census and it has probably grown significantly in the last seven years. The above photo features the main street in town, Highway 158. Going through Stokesdale is a convenient way to Belews Lake.
While the town never seems to be busy when we pass through, the main street has several small mom-and-pop businesses. The surrounding area is largely a rural, farming community. It was only recently incorporated in 1989, but those brick buildings look like they date to the early 20th century. It sure would be a fabulous place to film old-time movies. If you have a chance this weekend, head on up to explore this corner of the county. The weather should be lovely.
It certainly seems to have an old fashioned feeling.
