Polly Compos Anton, dressed as the Queen of Hearts, had a make-and-take bracelet table at her "Polly Originals" booth at Saturday's Keep It Local event. Usually, Polly is busy selling her own one-of-a-kind necklaces, bracelets, and earrings. This year, she brought her vast collection of beads, memory wire, and tools, and helped people design their own bracelets. Polly has been making jewelry since the early 1990's, when she was a graduate student at UNC Chapel Hill. Serendipity brought her to bead making when she visited a friend working at a Chapel Hill bead store and fell instantly in love with making jewelry. Polly has always been creative and even studied painting; however, the immediacy of assembling jewelry and seeing clients wearing her pieces fueled her love of designing jewelry.
Polly recalls fondly the years she held jewelry parties in the basement of Anton's restaurant. Now, she mostly sells at local arts and crafts fairs, like the Yanceyville Curb Market and Leanne Pizio's Keep it Local Show. Polly will be showing at the 21st annual Whimsical Women Art Festival in Winston Salem in two weeks.* Last time we were at the Irving Park Frame Shop, her jewelry was available there. Polly specializes in crystal and metal pieces with an antique flair. She also has a line with calm beach colors. The colorful bracelet and earrings below were created specially for celebrating Halloween. We hope you have a chance to meet this fun, kind, talented local artist.
