This bench is placed in front of a porch full of petunias at a home on Walker Avenue, just off Tate Street. It is so inviting and tempting to use for a respite, a time for silent meditation. At least one day a week, we all need to take pause, reflect on the week behind and the week ahead of us. Today would be a good day for to do so.
There are many serious situations in the world right now, one of which is just up the road in Charlottesville, Virginia. Tonight in Greensboro, there will be a candlelight vigil for unity and social justice at Governmental Plaza on Greene Street from 7-8pm. As a community, Greensboro made great headway toward social justice in the 1960's, during the the Civil Rights Movement. Let's hope and pray we can keep race-based violence out of our community.
And, if we see someone on the above bench, we just may ask for permission to join them, regardless of how alike or how different we may be...
Fitting words for the occasion, Janis.
