National Night Out was celebrated last night. Many people and neighborhoods in Greensboro took part in the event. The above photo features South Mendenhall Avenue in the College Hill neighborhood. Their slogan was "College Hill for Everyone." College Hill is located between Greensboro College and UNCG on the edge of downtown. They closed part of the street to allow neighbors a chance to spend time getting to know each other. Pizza, sodas, and watermelon were available for all. Children were playing in the street; learning to hula-hoop was especially popular. The event is a community-police awareness-raising event. Throughout the event, held from 5-9 pm, several different police stopped by to interact with the residents of College Park.
The event has been held annually since 1984. College Hill has been a neighborhood since the mid-1800s; it has had an incorporated neighborhood association since 1978 and has been on the National Register of Historic Places since 1993. College Hill is a neighborhood committed to feeling neighborly and an event like National Night Out is perfect for helping all neighbors feel welcome. If your neighborhood does not yet have organized activities for National Night Out, consider planning one for next year. It is always the first Tuesday in August.
That sounds like a wonderful idea!
