For years, Glitters was an anchor store in the 300 block of South Elm Street. Even before the regentrification of downtown Greensboro, Glitters was there. And back in those days, they were one of the few places in town where you could be guaranteed to find incense, Buddha figures, and other items from eastern religions. They also had what some referred to as "hippie items." About a year ago, Glitters moved to the 500 block of South Elm. And, now, we see a "going out of business" sign in the front window. Perhaps the demographic of downtown is changing; perhaps, there are more places that sell the same kinds of items as Glitters.
While it is hard to say goodbye to a Greensboro institution, we'll evoke a quote from Buddha about letting go, "Accept what is, let go of what was, and have faith in what will be." May we all have faith in what will be, whether on South Elm Street, in our personal lives, in the Nation, or in the world. Have a peaceful Sunday.
Always sad when a place like that goes out of business.
