The Food Lion food truck was at the Spears Y yesterday afternoon. They were at the Y distributing backpacks of with nutritious food: a box of salad greens, an apple, and a banana to anyone who stopped by. The purpose was to spread the word that Food Lion is committed to selling fresh food, especially produce. The stores in Greensboro should all be refurbished/remodeled by the end of the summer and they are making a real effort to bring in new customers, especially those who may be have tried them in the past but shop elsewhere; or, those who are in the habit of shopping at other grocery stores. The promotion got a lot of attention. Combining the Y with fresh produce was a good idea. People were walking up to the truck asking if they were giving away apples.
Perhaps the truck will be at another location today. We forgot to ask, and, by the time we returned to ask, they were gone. Having a mobile grocery distribution vehicle is a good idea, especially if they want to advertise and build a customer base at community events. By the way, we've already eaten the apple and it was tasty!
A good way of keeping customer attention while their renovations are proceeding.
