Today's photo features a cyclist at the corner of South Elm Street and East Washington Street. Greensboro has been working hard to make travel safer and easier for cyclists. About ten years ago, in 2007, Greensboro established and mapped a new route system for cyclists, based on recommendations of the BiPed Plan.* Since then, over the last several years, Greensboro has been constructing bicycling lanes, edgelines, and greenways. While the city is increasing its off-street paths, as seen in the above photo, many cyclists still need to use the city streets, especially when commuting to work.
Not all automobile drivers embrace the idea of sharing the road with cyclists. Please help spread the word, cycling is good for one's health and for the environment. May we all be willing to share the road. If you haven't tried, cycling, early weekend mornings is a good time to start learning- especially on some of the off-road options. Happy Saturday! Pedal power!

Bicycle lanes are being added here as well. And there's a large network of bike paths criss crossing the city.
