On Sundays, we try to publish something calm, relating to the human spirit and soul; as opposed to material things and bustling activity. This is what came to mind for today...
As we were walking to the National Folk Festival, from our mile-away parking space, we spotted this community garden on Fisher Avenue. It belongs to the First Presbyterian Church of Greensboro-- the church peeking out in the background. We needed a place to stop and rest for a minute and that white bench was so inviting. Given the scene, the following scripture comes to mind, "Then Jesus came with them to a place called Gethsemane, and said to His disciples, " Sit here while I go over there and pray" (Matthew 26:36).
Today, we reflect on the beauty of many diverse ethnicities coming together for the National Folk Festival. At the same time, we remember the 15th anniversary of September 11, 2001, when 3,000 people lost their lives, and another 6,000 were wounded, on American soil. Let us all pause and think about what we can do as humans to make the world a better, more connected place. All thoughts are equally valuable, whether they come from the bench in the garden, a pew in that glorious church, or elsewhere. How about more folk festivals and less violence!
It looks very peaceful.
