Another "I" business has moved to Irving Park. The above photo shows the old location. If you look closely, you can see Natty Greene's in the window reflection. On September 1st, the Idiot Box to the theatre space in Geeksboro. The exact address if 2431 Lawndale Drive. Their Thursday- Saturday schedule still includes open mike time and improv. Most tickets are $8 in advance and $10 at the door. They also offer workshops in the art of commedy, improvisation, and stand up. In this busy plaza with many eating establishments, like Hops Burger Bar, it is an opportunity to eat a meal and enjoy some entertainment.
NPR recently featured Moroccan-French comedian Gad Elmaleh telling of this very successful comedian's path to translating his humor from French to English for Americans. We wonder if there is a comedian at the Idiot Box who does a Greensboro-specific show. As Gad Elmaleh's journey reveals, humor is very socially situated and language dependent. We'll have to get by the Idiot Box to learn what the people of Greensboro see as funny.
What kind of humor do you like?
I think I go for smarter humour- the sort of gross out humour that's popular in movies these days just doesn't work for me, but I'd find Lewis Black, for instance, just right.
