The Collage Concert was given at UNCG on Saturday, kicking off the academic year for the College of Visual and Performing Arts at UNCG. In all, more than 300 students and faculty members performed at the concert. The yearlong theme is "War and Peace Imagined." UNCG, the City of Greensboro, and Triad community partners are hosting nationally known artists, authors, and intellectuals who will be exploring the theme of war and peace through the arts and humanities. The series is inspired by the 100th anniversary of World War 1. Triad Stage's production of Arms and the Man is part of this series.*
After Saturday's concert, Chancellor Franklin D. Gilliam, Jr. hosted a dinner at the Weatherspoon Museum. The Weatherspoon looked stunning, offering original art as a backdrop. The above photo shows the tables ready for guests to walk across the street from the UNCG Auditorium to enjoy a meal, and additional entertainment, in the company of the Chancellor. UNCG's catering services prepared a lovely three-course meal; the weather was nice; making the entire affair seem just about perfect.
With the National Folk Festival lamentably behind us, fortunately, we can count on the local institutions of higher education to provide plenty of quality entertainment. Right now, we are imaging "peace," and hope you are, too!
