Gate City Yarns is located downtown on South Elm Street. They sell very fabulous yarn; not your craft store, polyester, spun-in-China yarn. They have a diverse selection skeins of just about every natural source possible. They are a community gathering place for people who love and practice fiber arts. Everyone is welcome, regardless of skill level. They have been open since 2007.
The above photo features a window display. To the left, you see people walking along the street on June's First Friday. To the left, you see giant knitting needles and some balls of yarn. In the middle, you see a lamp made from a guitar in a very steampunk style. Below, is a more conventional shot of the entrance. They really bring a cozy, knit-by-the-fireside feel to the 200 block of South Elm Street. Today is ABC Wednesday and for "Y" in our A-Z Urban Finds Series, "Y" is for YARNS, Gate City Yarns. Click here to see A-Y and stop back next week when we conclude the series with "Z."
Steampunk was the first thought that flashed through my mind when I saw it!
