Today's photo features Steve's Automotive, with part of Brook's Lumber Co, the buttery yellow building, sticking out behind the red automotive center. Owned by Steve Stubblefield, his automotive center dates to 1989; however, we're betting that there was a gas station in this spot predating Steve's shop.
This corner of Eugene Street and Gate City Boulevard is about to change. Marty Kotis bought it last month will transform the lot. Being located between the Union Square Campus, UNCG's Spartan Village, and new recreation center, the above 2-acre property repurposed as restaurants and a beer garden will likely be a big success. Greensboro's footprint is changing before our eyes and Gate City Boulevard has changed significantly, all along the way. If you want to drive by and reminisce about how Lee Street used to look and how community service stations were set up before the new mega-gas stations, you'd better do so within the next few weeks. It will be gone before you know it and then it will be fun to chart the progress. Greensboro's facelift is extending to the south.
Happy Monday, what will this week bring our way?
All things change, it seems.
