Peaches have arrived at the Piedmont Triad Farmer's Market on Sandy Ridge Road. The above photo shows people testing out the merchandise at Johnson's Peaches. This family and market, located in Candor (Montgomery County) have been selling peaches and more since 1934. We are so lucky that they come up from the Sandhills to sell their peaches in Greensboro. If you are looking for a day trip, it is also fun to visit them in Candor.
According to the North Carolina Department of Agriculture's website*, North Carolina's peach industry in unique because it sells 90% of its crop direct to consumers, at places like the Piedmont Triad Farmer's Market. Peaches account for over 6 million dollars in revenue for North Carolina and approximately 4,300 tons a year are grown on 1,100 acres of land. Peaches are available from May to August and eating fresh peaches is a North Carolina summer tradition. If you are looking for a gift to take to friends in another state, looking for something fresh to have around the house, are inspired to make ice cream, think PEACHES!
*reference, here.
They're grown here, but only in relatively isolated pockets of the province around the Niagara area.
