Summer is the time for exploring and, in Guilford County, there is plenty to see. The above photo was taken in the western end of the county near the corner of Old Oak Ridge Road and Barden Dr. The farm on Highway 150 near Kernersville is surrounded by suburban neighborhoods. It is wonderful to still see these old-time sights in our community; surviving, in spite of the temptation to sell off the farm and retire!
Of all 100 counties in North Carolina, Guilford County has the most horses. As for the little donkey in the foreground, his muzzle is the kind that controls grazing without completely stopping it. Donkeys are known for being intelligent and cautious, but also friendly. This one appeared to be all of the above. There was at least one other donkey in the fenced in field and several horses. It was a breathtaking sight. It looked like the owners took great care of their animals and their property. Let's hope the farm is there for years to come.
It looks like they have a good deal of space to wander.
