Northwest Baptist Church, on Edgefield Drive off of Alcorn Road, was established in 1948, originally as Honey and Rock Missionary Baptist Church. The above building was built in 1972. All was quiet at the church when we took this photo, yesterday; however, today it will be a flurry of activity, as the congregation is having its annual picnic after church. The picnic will be held at Triad Park and the weather should be plenty warm. Since the last day of school was Friday, on Monday, many teens from the church will be heading to camp in Georgia for a week. Likely, that will be a big topic on conversation today at the picnic.
The beginning of summer is always such a hopeful time of year and a time of great anticipation of all that that has been planned. All the best to Pastor Hamann and the members of the church as they worship, pray, and break bread together at the park. If you live near the church, remember that the road construction and detours are causing delays. Allow a little extra time to get there; you know church picnic food is always mouthwatering and the specialty dishes never last long!
You can almost always tell a Baptist Church by the architecture. And this nice building is very typical.

It reminds me of church architecture of that period that one can find here, usually places outside the city.
