The Music for a Sunday Evening in the Park (MUSEP) concerts started this past Sunday with big band and swing music at Blandwood Mansion. West Washington Street, in front of Blandwood, served as the pop up stage and impromptu dance floor for the concert. Police cordoned off the block so that people could dance, throw Frisbees, and come and go safely. For a few hours this past weekend, the lawn at Blandwood evoked Georges Seurat's "A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte." Dancers took full advantage of the two 45-minute music sets. MUSEP concerts are such a relaxing way to spend a Sunday evening-- especially when you bring friends and food.
This is the 37th year of the tradition Unbelievably, the MUSEP concerts are free and will continue for the next twelve Sunday evenings through the summer. The next two weeks, concerts will be in Barber Park.* Hope to see you there. If you want to donate to this great cause, no amount is too small and can be sent to: The Music Center Attn: Jennifer Hance, 200 N. Davie St., Box 2, Greensboro, NC 27401.

That is a great tradition, although I'd probably take photos than participate. Each of the "hometowns" in The Villages has a town square where live music is offered 365 days except when inclement weather arrives. Lots of old folks out there dancing and having fun!

That does sound like a good tradition to keep up.
