The Smith family of Sunset Hills has been flocked!
At the corner of Madison and Ridgeway, you will see this flock of pink flamingos, placed there by Young Life. To be sure, the Smiths will pay a generous donation to this Christian group for them to come and remove these flamingos from their lawn. It is all in fun.
But then again, the Smiths are the ones who started the trend of the lighted Christmas balls suspended in trees throughout Sunset Hills. Their winter tradition has burgeoned into thousands of pounds of food collected for the First Harvest Food Bank. The Smith family just may take these flamingos and do something even more creative, for the needy in our community.
Young Life is a non-denominational group in which adults work to get and keep children and teenagers interested in Christianity and in doing good in the community. Young life was started by an elderly woman, Clara Frasher, in Texas in the 1930's, and has grown into an organization with membership worldwide. Young Life in Greensboro is a very active and dynamic group, if you want to learn more about the organization and all they are doing to help the community, read more, here.
Those who know Nanny Foster (see our Friday and Saturday posts) keep asking where her flamingos have gone. Perhaps they have migrated to Sunset Hills. Happy Sunday!
That's a first for me!
