Spring is upon us and, in Greensboro, it is time to start planning our gardens. The above photo shows a gardener getting the early spring, ornamental beds ready for the North Battleground restaurant, TESSA, Farm to Fork.
We featured one of their chefs recently (here) and returned to indulge in a farm to fork breakfast this past weekend. Indeed, the breakfast was tasty and the poached eggs were cooked to perfection, which is not always easy to do. We got a little tickled when the people sitting next to us wanted something reheated and the waiter explained that they don't even have a microwave on site. At that point, we realized that the restaurant, indeed, is committed to fresh.
From the looks of the small garden plots on the north side of the property, it appears that they may be growing some herbs on-site. We encourage to plant as much edible as you can, even if it is container gardening. There is a great nursery for edible landscaping about 3 hours north of Greensboro on US-29 in Afton, Virginia. The nursery is called Edible Landscaping. Also, between the farmers markets, garden centers, and the April 14th plant sale of the Herb Society (details, here), there are plenty of opportunities to get great plants locally. You can establish your own, personal, farm to fork! Happy spring planting.
I'd enjoy a meal there.
