For Christians around the world, today is the most sacred of holidays, Easter. Many churches will start the day with a sunrise service. The sunrise service for the First Presbyterian Church, downtown, starts at 7:00 outside by the Columbarium, off Fisher Park Circle. The First Baptist Church has a sunrise service in Country Park. Both offer breakfast afterwards. Those are just two of many services around the Triad today. The only Christians not celebrating Easter today are the Orthodox. Their Easter comes really late this year, May 1st.
The above photo features a hyacinth growing in a northwest Greensboro yard. Hyacinths are at peak this week, dogwoods are blooming, the azaleas have popped this week; all of these flowers and blossoms are adding glorious scents and visual beauty, just in time for Easter. Fortunately, North Carolina winters are mild enough that flower bulbs usually winter over in the ground. How beautifully they echo the spirit of Easter: Rebirth!
Very pretty!
Sunrise services are common here on Easter Sunday too. Happy Easter!
