The corner of Madison and Ridgeway is Ground Zero for the tradition of filling tree tops, and lining streets, with chicken-wire, light balls for Christmas. Already, most of the neighbors have filled their trees with decorations. Soon, the above 6 seats will be filled with Sunset Hills residents who will be enjoying the spirit of the great tradition they started. They will watch as people drive slowly through the neighborhood and generously toss cans of food into the above trailer. The Smith family will see that it gets to the North Carolina food banks. Sadly, Greensboro is one of the most food insecure cities in the nation. Yet, we are generous, caring people. Hopefully, people will fill those trailers, that will fill the pantries, that will feel the bellies of our neediest.
Giving, remembering others, and acts of kindness are an important part of the season. If you can, drive by and see the Sunset Hills spectacular, and, remember to bring canned goods. The lights are hard to photograph. Here is a photo from a previous year. Here is a photo of the after-party for the Running of the Balls event through the neighborhood. Hope to see you there!
A good reminder.
