Did you know there is a website dedicated to half-mast flag news?* Upon noticing flags around town at half mast, including the above in the parking lot of Costco on Wendover Avenue, we came home to verify the reason. American flags are to remain at half-staff through sundown today to honor the victims of the attack in San Bernadino, California. Additionally, today is Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day.
When a flag flies at half-staff, we are all reminded that tragedies like the one in San Bernadino and the attack on Pearl Harbor affect all of us. This patriotic sign of respect is a visual reminder that innocent, fellow Americans lost their lives- in Greensboro, and beyond. Let's hope when the flag is raised to the summit tomorrow, that it will stay there for a very long time.

There are protocols here for half-mast on government buildings. Often it's when someone of note has passed, on official days like Remembrance Day, and other specified occasions. Yesterday they were at half mast here because of the anniversary of a shooting spree in 1989 by a man who despised women at a college in Montreal.

I didn't know there was a website with info on flag waving. I remember when Obama was elected, scumbags in this part of the country flew their flags at half-mast.
