Saturday's weather was perfect for the National Honeybee Day. The Bee Friendly to Bees Day at the Extension Demonstration Garden was very well received by the community. The Garden and Guilford County Center are part of the NCState University and A&T State University Cooperative Extension. Those universities do so much for the community and Saturday's event was one such example. It was an all-around collaborative effort. Also involved were the Guilford County Bee Keepers, the 4-H Clubs, and the Master Gardeners. The Master Gardners worked tirelessly, weeding and preparing the grounds for the event. Children took the child-friendly activities, especially the scavenger hunt, very seriously. As seen in the photo above, adults were also quite engaged. The tall, flat box housed a hive of bees and, at the moment of the photograph, onlookers were trying to find the queen bee. She was bee-ing rather elusive.
The weather was so nice, it was obvious that summer wants to hold on for a little while longer. Today is the first day of class for traditional schools in Guilford County. Here's to a great school year. If teachers are looking for interesting, community-based activities, the Cooperative Extension Center is a great resource.
A good educational resource, for children and adults. Bees help us so much, and we need to do the same for them.
