The Guilford County Schools are now in session. For schools on a traditional calendar, yesterday was the first day. Teachers and students seem excited to be back and to see each other. The above photo was taken earlier this summer on the side of Ragsdale High School near the new buildings. The facility is very nice and this rock, with the tiger design, was a work of art. Ragsdale would look great with this mascot, the flying tiger, permanently painted on a sign near the entrance. These school rocks are repainted on a regular basis.
Ragsdale High, located in Jamestown, is a 9-12th grade school serving over 1,400 students. It opened in 1959 and was named for Lucy Coffin Ragsdale. Mrs. Ragsdale organized the first PTA in Guilford County. Her grandfather was Dr. Shubal Coffin and her Quaker family helped with the Underground Railroad. Read more history of Ragsdale, here. Notable alumni include Siri Mullinix, goalie for the 2000 U.S. Women's Olympic Soccer Team, and Pat McCrory, the current Governor on North Carolina.
It is our hope that all 1,400 students, their teachers, Ragsdale's administration and staff all have a great school year. All the best for each and every one of Guilford County's students.
Very colourful work on the rock!

My niece is excited to get back to school. It's amazing how long the breaks are in the states.
