Genesis Baptist Church was established in 1997 at 2812 East Bessemer Avenue, in a building that had served as a church in the Bessemer Community for years. Their pastor, Dr. Headen, is a native of Goldston, NC and has been a minister for 44 years. Dr. Headen has done so much for the Greensboro community, including serving on the Executive Board of the Greensboro Branch of the NAACP. Additionally, he co-chaired the Greensboro Truth and Reconciliation Project. He is very devoted to the issued of human rights, in his church, in Greensboro, and beyond.
There were several cars leaving the parking lot on Saturday afternoon; we're sure it will be even busier today. Bessemer used to be the major east/west hub for Greensboro, before Wendover Avenue was built. It is still one of the major business streets for the East Greensboro community. In chatting briefly with a church member Saturday afternoon, it became evident that the congregation loves their church and takes great pride in the community. Let's hope that Genesis Baptist is around for a very long time. Happy Sunday!
A rare name for a church.
