Kitran is an ancient way to meditate using the call-and-response singing of sacred Sanskrit mantras while calming music is playing. In the above photo, you see the group meeting at Vida Pour Tea on State Street this past Friday night. Debra Warren (Magmata devi), second from right, led the group in the spiritual chanting. While there is no religious belief connected to Kirtan, the practice is known for quieting the mind and helping humans connect to our divine source. People who practice Kirtan are very inclusive and don't ask about your religious beliefs, but greet all those who participate.
If you missed the Kirtan event at Vida Pour Tea, the group will be at Eclectic by Nature Saturday, June 13th. Also, you can log on to the Greensboro Triad Kirtan on Facebook or contact Deborah Warren * if you would like to arrange an event at your own venue. Jumpstart your visit and practice the chants, here. We like to use Sundays on Greensboro Daily Photo to share religion, relaxation, and spirituality in Greensboro. Thank you Deborah; your voice and guitar playing is incredibly relaxing.
Happy Sunday, whatever you believe.
Your readers might be interested in what instrument Debra Warren is playing. It's called "harmonium." This freestanding keyboard instrument, which originated in Europe, is similar to a reed organ (it may remind you of an accordion). Sound is created when air—produced by bellows operated by foot, hand, or knees–is blown through sets of free reeds.

I'm sure that's done in part here, but I've never heard of a group.
