Wendover Avenue, Greensboro’s central east/west boulevard, is a wavy road with lots of street lights, stretching from NC-68 in High Point in the west to McLeansville in the eastern end of Guilford County. Known as “the bump,” the busiest part is the corridor is the shopping area at Bridford Parkway running past Wal-Mart, Costco and all of the car lots. Wendover Avenue even has a Wikipedia entry. It is hard to believe that Wendover Avenue has been around since the 1960's.
The above photo was taken on the eastern end, looking west. The sky is a deep sapphire blue. The white stripe on the horizon shows that night not has not completely rolled in. While East Wendover is not nearly as busy as West Wendover, with the urban loop, the east side will change drastically over the next five years. Already, there is no isolated stretch of road between East Greensboro and West Burlington. If you get a chance, drive Wendover’s entire length and think about all of the places you could go. Time your trip just right and you, too, just may see a sapphire sky. They are pretty common in Greensboro. Happy Saturday!
I really like that dramatic blue!
