The above view is of Hunter Hills Evangelical Friends Church, located on Merritt Drive near Patterson. The congregation came together in 1909 as the Pomona Monthly Meeting of Friends. In 1959, they built in Hunter Hills and became renamed the Hunter Hills Evangelical Friends Church.
Back when the church was the Pomona Friends, we're betting there was an association with John Van Lindley, whose nursery was in the neighborhood of the church. Van Lindley was a Quaker; however, records indicate he was a member of the Quaker New Garden Meeting. It would be interesting to read a history of this congregation with Quaker roots that was established near his nursery almost a decade before Van Lindley died. It would also be interesting to read how they became Evangelical Friends. Regardless of the faith path of the members, the church's steeple looks beautiful surrounded by blossoms and blue skies.
Lovely spring view!
