Merritt Drive in Greensboro is an area where much is happening in the transportation industry. Located near the railroad is the above lot belonging to ContainerPort Group (CPG). Container drayage* is the process of getting cargo from point A to point B and ContainerPort has being doing it for over four decades. They operate a drayage terminal and the Northern Southern ramp in Greensboro, providing customers with empty and loaded container storage options.
CPG, based in Cleveland, Ohio, is trying to expand in the Southeast. In September of 2014, they opened a new terminal in Charlotte and provide international container drayage over to the Port of Wilmington. Seeing these operations causes one to wonder how on earth items can be hauled from China to Greensboro, land in a Dollar store, and still only cost a dollar! This would be a fun project for children, to follow the supply chain, tracking merchandise as it moves through Greensboro.
Did you ever dream that container cars could be so colorful.
* We're always interested in learn more about industries and their terminology. Learn more about drayage, here.
I really like the colours of the container cars stacked up in this photo.

We mostly see these on container ships leaving or entering the port...

It kind of reminds me of children's building blocks.

This scene looks very familiar GDP. Fremantle Harbour is our main port and there are huge container yards like this. You're right, it would be very interesting to work out the cost flow of many imports.
