Professional freelance illustrator, Rob Bates, is the artist behind the above poster, which was featured in conjunction with the 2015 US Figure Skating Championships last month. Forty-four works by forty artists were on view at the poster exhibit. This one, entitled America in Motion, took 5th place in the People's Choice Award. We love the sense of movement, clean lines and the red, white, and blue outfits worn by the skaters. We would love to see this poster be used in some way to celebrate and promote the sport.
While Bates is from Concord, NC and currently working on a degree at UNC Charlotte, he has published in many media outlets locally as well as nationally. According to his website, his work resides in the permanent collection of the National Museum of the Marine Corps and the American Embassy in Beijing, China.* How fortunate we were in Greensboro to have artists of this caliber submitting artwork in conjunction with the figure skating event. Greensboro's own Greenhill Center for North Carolina Art played a key role organizing this art contest. A big thank you goes out to them, too. Finally, if you get a chance, have a look at Mr. Bates' website (referenced below). We have a feeling we will be seeing a lot more of his artwork.
