The Old Mill of Guilford, located on Highway 68, just north of Greensboro, is a fully-operational, water-powered grist mill that dates back to 1764. People come from miles around to purchase their all-natural, stone-ground grains. The day we were there, a family from Richmond County, NC came up to buy grits and sausage. Another woman was there buying packages of sweet potato muffin mix for herself and for gifts. She says that everyone she buys the mix for usually ends up ordering more online.
The mill has a great history, surviving the Revolutionary War, a highway being built between the dam and the mill, structural issues, and multiple changes in ownership. Since 2008, it has been owned by Alice and Darrell Klug who are dedicated to maintaining the historical integrity of the mill and in offering quality, local products to their customers.* The above photo features a worker, heading back to the workroom one last time before closing for Christmas. She, the other workers, and the Klugs have earned their holiday time off!

It looks like it has a lot of character through all that history!
