The first weekend in December, the First Moravian Church, located at 304 South Elam Avenue, holds its annual Movaian Candle Tea. The above photo features the building where tea and dessert are served each year. The church is always full of music, handmade crafts, and visitors. Stopping for tea is like walking back in time, back to simpler times when a bowl of fruit and greenery was a winter favorite for table scapes; talking over tea was a favorite passtime.
The Moravians, like the Quakers, have a tradition of simplicity. For Christmas, the iconic Moravian star greets visitors to the church. However, equally important is the fellowship and the people who make up the congregation. For a brief time this weekend, it was as if cell phones were put away and, on Elam Avenue, time stood still. Advent is upon us!
I think the simplicity appeals to me. I did have to look up Moravian!
