On these recent fall days, butterflies have been hanging out in Greensboro. In tha above photo, we see a monarch butterfly enjoying the flowers along Tate Street at the easternmost edge of UNCG. Monarch butterfly migration is heaviest in autumn as they head 2,500 miles to Mexico to hibernate in fir trees.
Between Greensboro and High Point, on Clinard Farm Roads is a butterfly farm. The farm's annual release day for the season was this past Saturday. Perhaps the above butterfly previously had been living at All-A-Flutter. Regardless, we sure are glad it chose to hover around our camera. The monarch butterfly population has declined 90%, so if you're looking for something to plant in your yard, a little milkweed might just be the habitat they are seeking. Happy Friday. Happy Skywatch Friday- where everyone shares a slice of the sky from their corner of the earth.
