Irving Park BP has been a gas station serving the community for over 50 years. As you can see, it still has a bay and offers repairs and state inspections. According to their website, they offer offer latest technology equipment and old-fashioned service. Many generations of children have scooted into the store part of the station to purchase what used to be penny candy, then nickel candy, and now dollar plus candy. People used to want their gas pumped for them. Now, they want to do it themselves. Pump and go; as our lives get busier and busier, IP BP is there to help you get in and out quickly. Also, the are there to help you reminisce about the past.
Every neighborhood needs a neighborhood gas station. This spot on North Elm Street, in conjunction with its neighbor, Brown-Gardiner Drug Store, has been serving one of Greensboro's oldest neighborhoods for a very long time. As life gets more complicated, a little continuity goes a long way.
This one looks like the owner takes pride in their work.

Irving Park BP belongs to one of the Shuler Brothers. They grew up in the business of running gas stations, towing and working on cars. His brother owns the Exxon located at I40/85 and McConnell Road. Their father once owned a station located at I40/85 and Mt Hope Church Rd.
Teddy, a former coworker of my own is a mechanic there. He's one of the best I've ever seen. He was formerly shop manager at Greensboro Auto Parts and has literally completely disassemble and reassembled many a car. Few mechanics can make that claim. I once saw him assemble an Iveco diesel truck engine that was in boxes and buckets. No repair manuals, no Internet, nothing to guide him. At the time Teddy had never before heard of an Iveco, much less seen one. I then drove that truck without fail for 400,000 miles.
The businesses are now moving towards a 3rd generation with their children taking an active roll in learning and managing parts of each business.
