Today's photos show the progress on the Urban Loop between Battleground Avenue and Horse Pen Creek Road. All summer, road crew has been diligently filling in the wetlands. The herons seem to have relocated; however, this duck can't seem to get the message that he needs to move on. We were able to take these photos because there is a sidewalk on this section of Battleground. We're wondering if the sidewalks will still be there once the road is in place. The Horse Pen Creek side is nearly impossible to photograph because there is no shoulder on the road.
There is so much road construction in the northern part of Greensboro and Guilford County, reflective of the population boom experienced. From 2000 to 2010, the city's population grew 20.4% and the county's population grew 16%. Based on the 2010 census, the Greensboro's population was 269,666 and the county's was 488, 406. North Carolina, in general, has been experiencing a growth in population, especially Raleigh (46.3% ) and Charlotte (35.4%).*
Surely, somehow, we'll make way for ducklings.
I do worry about the sacrifice of wetlands, the long term consequences of that.

We built around our wetlands here, and the ducklings remained safe. I hope the same happens your way.
