Saffron Indian Restaurant is located on Westover Terrace at Wendover. There are many resturants in that area, representing the cuisine of a variety of ethnicities. Indian restaurants are fun to try for lunch because most have a buffet set up and there is plenty to sample. Saffron has been in Greensboro for about ten years now. It is just up the street from Grimsley High School and within easy driving distance for seniors to easily eat there and get back to school on time. However, it is summer now, so one isn't as likely to see high school students. They'll be back!
Saffron gets its name from the stigma of the crocus flower and, according to Saffron's website, 75,000 of those flowers must be hand picked to get enough filaments for a pound of saffron. The spice is the color of that strip surrounding the ceiling. If you visit the restaurant, ask which dishes contain saffron. Be sure to sample the palate-clensing fennel and candy bits as you leave the restaurant. If you want an authentic, Indian experience, order a mango drink, which happens to be saffron in color!
oh yummy!! and i'm impressed that high school kids actually pick this for lunch! you know usually you'll find them at the fast food spot!
