Lent is the season before Easter that is meant to prepare believers through prayer, penance, repentance, almsgiving, atonement, and self-denial.* The cloth that drapes the crosses during the Lenten season is purple. The above Lenten cloth is draped at Moorehead United Methodist Church of Greensboro on Horse Pen Creek Road. The church was established in 1888 and has the motto, "Rural Roots...Urban Vision"** It hasn't been that many years ago that this church seemed really rural. Now, Horse Pen Creek Road seems rather urban. However, you do get a little sense of time standing still when you are inside Moorehead UMC. You get a sense that people have time for fellowship with each other at Moorehead UMC. Stop by and visit, and you will see for yourself.
** see the church website, here.
That deep purple is used in churches here as well this time of year.
