The Sedgefield Country Club, located off of High Point Road and south of Greensboro, came in to being in 1926 at what had previously been the Sedgefield Inn. The golf course at the club is recognized internationally and has attracted golfers like Arnold Palmer, Sam Snead, Gary Player, and Ben Hogan, all of whom participated in the Greater Greensboro Open . Sedgefield continues as a regular golf tournament, now known as the Wyndam Golf Championship, on the PGA tour.
The above photo features the clubhouse, a place that is especially busy during the holiday season. Countless holiday brunches and gatherings are held here, annually. The club has done a great job of staying vibrant and viable even in years that have been difficult financially. Sedgefield is now part of the McConnell Golf property, as is the Cardinal Golf Course. Between North and South Carolina, the McConnell group has eight properties (reference). So, Sedgefield Country Club maintains its tradition, history, and cozy feel, while spreading its wings into a bigger corporate network.
The photo below features a fox, now inside on the mantle of the above clubhouse. Perhaps it was hunted on the grounds at Sedgefield. Happy Friday, dear readers.
