If you want to see Greensboro at its best, head to the Festival of Lights in Center City Park this evening and then stroll down Elm Street for the best First Friday of the year. Streets will be blocked off; live music will be everywhere; people will be decked in holiday gear from head to toe. December's First Friday is just what the doctor ordered to bring you some joy and holiday spirit. This is probably the biggest event of the season for helping Greensboro feel a sense of community. Regardless of what you celebrate- or not- it is fun to stand back and watch everyone having so much fun. It is even better if you contribute to the festivities.
Grab your wildest Christmas sweater, a few dollars for buying arts and crafts, your camera, a few extra dollars for tipping musicians, and come on down. If it is like previous years, you will even see some fake snowflakes in Hamburger Square. Here is a list of stores that will be open and musical venues from Friendly Avenue to Lee street. Here is a map. The above photo was taken last year at Center City Park just to give you an idea of the magic you will feel downtown tonight. Hope to see you there, dear readers!
